WGMD Business Spotlight Featuring ThinkSecureNet – Episode 07/29/21

Interviewer: Let me welcome to our studio Ms. Kristen Jackson from ThinkSecureNet. Also, Mark Kosloski. He is the Vice President of Sales. Kristen is Director of Human Resources and Accounting. Welcome to WGMD. How are you?

Kristen: Good. How are you?

Interviewer: I'm just fine. And Mark, how are you doing?

Mark: I think I'm good. Yes.

Interviewer: Last week, it was a little tiny bit scratchy, but you know, technology being what it is, as both you folks are aware, technology can have a side that we don't always plan for.

Mark: You can only keep a sales guy quiet for so long.

Interviewer: Well, listen, the economy only moves when a salesperson gets an order. Isn't that right? Sales make the world go round. That's all there is to it now.

ThinkSecureNet, as we learned last week, your firm's right here in Lewis. You have proprietary high technology systems that will keep people's telecommunication and information technology systems more secure than basically anybody else's technology will, isn't that right? Do I have that right?

Mark: Yeah. You absolutely have it. Correct.

Interviewer: Okay. Mark, tell us a little bit about what the firm can do for a company that wants to make sure that they don't get spam calls; that people don't clone their phone number; that their IT systems don't get invaded, don't get ransomware and stuff like that.

Mark: We offer what we consider to be enterprise and medical-grade solutions. You'll often hear people say, "I can get a $200 Walmart or Costco router," and they'll try to install it themselves or have their own homes.

Interviewer: Are people still doing that kind of thing? It doesn't make any sense in this day and age.

Mark: That's right. So, often what we'll do is we'll come in, we'll evaluate the environment, take a look at what they've got. And then, what we're going to do is implement solutions that are enterprise grade and that are going to protect the organization from the types of things that you described.

Now a ransomware attack. You know, to be honest with you, I have a very close friend who was ransomwared, all right. He has a one-man shop, and he works with some high-profile people, but this can be devastating. There are governments that have been almost shut down in this country due to this. If you don't block them out before they get to you, you're in pretty serious trouble.

You want to make sure that you have the security that you need to ensure that your systems are protected, and nobody is going to come in there with ransomware and demand money from you to get your stuff back now.

Interviewer: Kristen, right now, organizations are kind of working in. Some of them are struggling to find individuals and professionals with the right IT background. How are you guys at ThinkSecureNet doing?

Kristen: We've been very blessed with a talented group of core employees and team members that have stuck with us for years. So, retaining employees has been very important to us.

All of our employees follow our core values that we hold deep. We exhibit growth, honesty, community. Family's important to us. Loyalty. We're always looking for doing service, excellence, and innovation.

The main thing with technology is just staying inventive and making sure that we're ahead of everything. We want to make sure that the work that we give everyone is challenging and fulfilling. We don't ever want you to come work for us and be bored. We want to make sure that you have enrichment in your career, along with career paths and opportunities to grow.

We'd like to make sure that our pay is competitive. We have benefits that suit your family's needs.

We want to make sure that your home and your work-life balance are suited for what you have. Most of us, if not all of us in the company, have kids. We want to make sure that you're there for your kids' soccer games, their ball games. We don't want you to miss out on a school play or anything. And we don't ever want to have to make someone feel like they have to choose between work and family. That's not us. And that's not our core values.

We support multiple causes within the area. I know that the first time that we were able to get together as a company since COVID was with the Gather for Gavin at Hudson Fields. It was really nice to see everyone and get together for the first time in over a year. For every dollar that we get in, 5% of that we give right back out, and all of our charities are local through the community. We want to make sure that we give back just as much as the community has given us.

Interviewer: What is the IT labor market for the professionals that you need right now?

Kristen: Now, if you are considering the IT field, you are in one of the fastest-growing fields that there is.

Mark, thank you for the statistics that you gave me. I'm going to read them down. The unemployment rate in 2020 was 4.3% for IT professionals compared to the 11.2% nationwide. Once you get a job in IT, you tend to keep it. You're not unemployed and looking for other work. This year alone, our national average for unemployment got down to 6.1, and I think it's actually lower right now from what I've read. But computer professionals are at 2.2%. So, as I said, once you get a job in the IT field, you kind of stick with it, and you're not on unemployment; you're not looking for jobs.

The IT field is expected to grow 11% from 2019 to 2029. So that is the fastest industry that is growing with occupations. We're looking to add probably a million jobs just in the IT field within the next five years. So, literally, the jobs are there for IT professionals, if that's what you want to go into.

The medium income for an experienced IT professional with credentials and with experience, the background, the know-how can get up to $91,000 a year. The average income for any other occupation is around $46,000 a year. So the IT field can be very, very lucrative if that's something that you want to do and you pursue it with a passion.

A lot of IT professionals start getting specialized. They get the credentials, and they get really good at telecommunications and get the certifications for that. The network engineers, they have a specialization where they do the cyber security where they're doing cloud information and everything. So depending on what you want to do, there is growth, and there are opportunities for this profession.

Interviewer: Mark, very often, in almost every industry, people say, "Yeah, we need salespeople." Don't you actually, more than that, need paying accounts coming into your company? I mean, I'm sure you're looking for good salespeople that understand the industry and your customer's needs. Is that about right now?

Mark: You're absolutely right.

Interviewer: And how are you doing?

Mark: Well, we've got open positions. Right now, I think we've got about three open headcount in our sales department. We are aggressively looking for people, anybody out in the Baltimore DC, Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York City markets, there's a place for you here. You can make a lot of money. You could do a lot of good in this world.

Organizations have really had to take on a complete transition through the pandemic. And what it really did was accelerated some of the things that were already taking place here. E-commerce, the omnichannel experience of ordering things through text and online. All this requires new technology, and to accommodate that, everybody needs help. There's plenty of opportunities to get out there; salespeople, engineers, everyone's got an opportunity here now.

Interviewer: You are hiring, but not just for technical positions?

Mark: No, we have multiple positions open. I'm looking for admin staff. Sales is the big thing right now. I am looking for a helpdesk service manager. I'm looking for cabling technicians, any type of experience for the cabling. We have an infrastructure division. Anybody that has construction experience, we can teach you a lot, and we teamed up to actually get an apprenticeship program so we can teach you a lot both in the IT field and cabling.

We have a lot of positions open, and we are definitely a growing company. If you stick with us, we'll take you with us.

Interviewer: How do people get in touch with ThinkSecureNet?

Mark: The best way that they can get a hold of us is to actually go to our website ThinkSecureNet.com. Our careers pages on there will take you right to our recruiting site. For every job that's there, you can upload your resume. It comes directly into my portal so that I can see and evaluate candidates. You can always go to the help desk at ThinkSecureNet.com or help@ThinkSecureNet.com.

And one other thing I'd like to bring up is that trying to find people is always difficult. Especially out here in Delmarva, there's a real need for talent. We listed off the salaries and stuff like that, but I can tell you that if you're an organization with somewhere between 50 and 250 computers, you have the opportunity to be able to outsource that through an organization like ourselves, where we can actually save you 50% on what it would cost to even hire a single individual.

And Kristen mentioned the specialization that's going on throughout the industry, right? So if you're going to hire an IT person, you might actually have to hire anywhere from two, maybe five industry professionals to be able to accommodate a complete solution within your network. So I'd highly encourage you, before you make the leap into hiring outside, to come take a look at what we have. We'd be able to provide you that same skill and capability across multiple disciplines at a fraction of what you did, and it's spending for even a single engineer.

Interviewer: That's so true. If you add up all the costs that you would spend on salaries, software, and equipment, we would be far more economical.

Kristen and Mark from ThinkSecureNet, thank you so much for being with us. Great day now.
