Structured Cabling for Sussex Academy of Arts and Sciences

Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences (SAAS), a public charter school located in Georgetown, Delaware, has experienced significant growth since expanding from a middle school (grades 6–8) to a full secondary program including high school grades. Following a charter revision and continued enrollment increases, SAAS required additional classroom space and upgraded network infrastructure to support its expanding student population.

To support modern educational technology and ensure reliable connectivity, SAAS partnered with ThinkSecureNet for a full structured cabling and network infrastructure installation.

The Challenge: Supporting Network Infrastructure for a Growing School

As SAAS expanded its campus, the school needed a scalable and high-performance low-voltage cabling system to support increased student and staff connectivity, classroom technology and digital learning tools, administrative and operational systems, and seamless integration between new and existing buildings. The project required a reliable infrastructure capable of supporting both current demands and future growth.

ThinkSecureNet's Solution: Structured Cabling and Fiber Installation

ThinkSecureNet designed and installed a comprehensive structured cabling system for the newly constructed school wing. Project scope included the installation of more than 9,000 feet of Category 6 (Cat6) cabling across 44 network locations and deployment of over 600 feet of fiber optic cabling to support high-speed backbone connectivity. Additionally, the installation of a new Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) connected the addition to the existing Main Distribution Frame (MDF).

A Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) led the project, coordinating closely with the general contractor to review construction plans, establish project milestones, and align installation timelines.

ThinkSecureNet implemented structured project planning to integrate seamlessly with the school’s construction schedule, ensuring efficient deployment without delays. The project was completed in approximately 120 man-hours, on time and within budget, and in full compliance with industry testing and certification standards. Advanced testing and validation were conducted using professional-grade equipment, including Fluke Networks cable analyzers and fiber optic testing tools, ensuring optimal performance across all installed systems.

This structured cabling solution ensures that SAAS can continue to grow while maintaining a secure, high-performance network environment for students and staff.
